Burien Arts Association (206) 244-7808 The Burien Arts Association was formally organized in April 1967, following the area's first arts festival and the establishment of an art gallery the previous year. The activities of the Burien Arts Association, besides operation of the Burien Arts Gallery, include the annual Strawberry Festival and Heritage Fair, funding arts-related projects for Burien-area students, arts classes, and taking a leadership role in coordinating arts events in Burien. Burien Coalition for the Arts The Burien Coalition for the Arts is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide a unified voice for local arts organizations by establishing and maintaining a dialogue among the local arts organizations in order to promote and support local arts through each organization's activities, concerts, programs, and events; and to establish a working relationship with the City of Burien. Burien Dance Theatre (206) 243-6498 Burien Dance Theatre offers a complete curriculum of dance instruction. We teach classical ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, Spanish, and hip-hop including pre-school and adult classes. We specialize in the disciplines of technique required to achieve excellence in all of the performing dance areas, as well as dance for recreational enjoyment. Our reputation is unsurpassed in superior teaching, community involvement, and quality performance. Burien Little Theatre (206) 242-5180 The Burien Little Theatre takes pride in being one of the oldest community theatres in South King County. For the past 20-plus years we have presented productions of the highest quality, accessible to audiences of all ages, and at the same time have made a deliberate effort to keep admission prices at a low level. In that way we have been able to reach out to a large contingent of senior citizens and familes in the Burien area. Each season we strive to present a slate of varied plays and one musical. The forthcoming season promises to be both an innovative and diverting one. We hope that we may once more exceed the expectations of our loyal audiences, and contribute to the enjoyment and enrichment of their lives. Choral Sounds Northwest (206) 246-6040 Choral Sounds Northwest is an 85-member mixed chorus of dedicated musicians who are drawn together by their love for choral singing. It was founded in 1984 by conductor Mark A. Adrian in response to the need for a vibrant, diversified south-end chorus that would bring quality music into the community while challenging experienced singers. Our December holiday concerts and May pops concerts feature a variety of music enhanced with creative sets, lighting, and choreography. Our classics concerts will be presented in March, featuring guest soloists and orchestra. Auditions are being held now for the upcoming season. Highline Community Band (206) 242-5459 This is a self-funded symphonic band which has been providing free concerts throughout the Puget Sound area for the past 27 years. Orginally organized under the offices of the Highline School District, the band membership (now some 60 strong) is open to all musicians for their enjoyment and for the enjoyment of the community. Highline Performing Arts Center (206) 433-2292 (206) 433-2396 (fax) Owned and operated by the Highline School District, the Highline Performing Arts Center is an 800-seat state-of-the-art performance hall. It is here that you can experience outstanding performances by many community groups such as: Choral Sounds Northwest Northwest Symphony Orchestra Highfine Community Band Broadway Musicals presented by The Hi-Liners Burien Dance Theatre High School Drama Productions Student Band and Choir Concerts Seattle Symphony sponsored by Celebrate Arts! Momentum Music and Dance Academy (206) 242-1239 Momentum Music and Dance Academy is dedicated to providing professional dance and music instruction in a caring and nurturing environment to students of all ages. Our state of the art facility features 3 large private dance floors that feature full-length mirrors and professional Marley floors. Our facility offers a separate lobby with reception area, a changing room, a student break room/homework room, 3 private music lesson studios, and a fourth multi-purpose studio used for birthday party celebrations, group music classes, and more. Northwest Symphony Orchestra (206) 242-6321 The Northwest Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1987 by music director Anthony Spain. Its members are drawn from all over the Seattle and Tacoma area. The mission of the NWSO is to perform music from all periods, but also to significantly support northwest composers. In the last seven years the NWSO has performed 50 different works by 19 northwest composers. Every NWSO concert features at least one work by a Northwest composer. In our "Meet the Composer" series, composers are on hand to speak to the audience about their compositions. In December 1995, Albany Records of New York released the NWSO's first CD, Reflections of the Northwest. Their second CD of music by northwest composers is scheduled for release this fall by KOCH International of New York. Seahurst Art Gallery (206) 244-7844 Seahurst Art Gallery, a non-profit cooperative, was founded in October 1967 to bring quality arts and crafts to the citizens of South King County. The facility, located in Olde Burien, is staffed by member artists and volunteers; management is provided by an elected Board of Directors. Exhibits of works by recruited artists are featured in the main room and are changed every 6-8 weeks. Each featured artist is provided with an open house event and guests are treated to a visual experience in viewing quality art. The Board is dedicated to providing a variety of art exhibits and programs for the public that reflect a commitment to art education. A visitor will find on display a variety of original paintings in many different mediums, as well as pottery, jewelry, seasonal crafts, and unframed matted paintings. The Hi-Liners (206) 617-2152 The Hi-Liners, created in 1966 by William H. Moeller, promotes excellence in theatre arts by providing a summer stock program for the youth of the area. In past years, Hi-Liner students have performed in the hit Broadway shows Hello, Dolly!, Oklahoma!, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Sound Of Music. |
